Installing rear spoiler

//Installing rear spoiler
Some people will not like the idea of installing a rear spoiler on the 68 firebird because they didn’t produce them at the factory but in my opinion there isn’t enough character in the rear without a spoiler. It gives the car so much more of a bold aggressive look.
From what I read only the trans am firebirds had rear spoilers and they were completely different looking with a raised above the trunk look. They said some dealerships would install them for customers but it was not an original part. It was only used for the Camaros.
To install this, I decided to try making my own template by pushing the spoilers threaded studs into cardboard to mark the holes, then tracing around the spoiler to cut out the template. {CAPTION}Then I placed the template on the trunk. Be sure to line up the back side of the template all the way to the back edge of the trunk. I way about a 1/4” off and had to drill the holes a second time.
Use masking tape on the paint surface to prevent paint from chipping and use a center punch.
I drilled it with a small drill it and worked up to the correct size.

This shows how I had to elongate the holes back farther. I used a special drill bit that could mill also. {CAPTION}

Then I covered any bare metal inside the holes with rust oleum paint to protect it from rusting. {CAPTION}
