Final sanding of primer and prep for painting day

//Final sanding of primer and prep for painting day
Over the past week I spent a lot of time sanding out the second spray of primer coats. I sprayed it with the same old primer that we had left over because I was hoping the rough spray surface was due to factors other than age.
Unfortunately it sprayed rough again.

Since I had to sand a lot smooth, I burned through the primer layer accidentally in several spots. Since they were small spots, I just used regular rust oleum primer that had a near identical gray color. It’s usually not recommended to use spray can primer in place of the urethane with activator stuff but this rust oleum automotive primer seemed like good stuff. I’ve read it may be okay with the following factors: it is a small area, is dried for a long time (or baked in well) and sanded well.

The inside of the trunk lid, along with door jams wasn’t that important for me to prime so I only sanded it once for the layer of basecoat.

Here are the two final photos of it prepped for painting the next day
