68′ Firebird project

After placing glazing and spot putty over the nicks and small imperfections, the door was sanded with a long block and finished off with a light coat off etch primer.

As you know the passenger door was in rough shape. I sanded the previous etch primer first. There were a lot of large chips in the paint all over so I sprayed these areas with filler primer. The chips were rather deep so I may use glazing and spot putty next

After I put the chrome trim around the back window, I realized there was a low spot on the edge. I built this put by placing a piece of card stock around the edge for support of the body putty while smearing it around. Then it was sanded smooth and primed .

Since this door panel was so rough, I sanded a lot more of the out paint and body fill with 36 grit sandpaper. All the surface rust was then wire wheel brushed away. With the rust holes patched, I started putting some layers of body putty on which extended to the front fender ding. While that dried, I removed the door handle and keyhole. Of course the preferred professional way is to cut out rusty thin sheet metal that has holes. I thought of trying something different. I cleaned out the rust, painted the inside with rust oleum rust and seal, then sealed up the small rust holes on the passenger door panel with JB weld. I even pushed in fiberglass mixed in with [...]
